At-Home Craft: Make Your Own Piccolo

It’s craft time! Join Sarah from the Seattle Symphony’s Education & Community Engagement team as she shows you how to make your own piccolo.

What you’ll need

  • One sheet of paper
  • Coloring supplies
  • Buttons or stickers (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Tape

Steps to make your instrument

  • Fold the sheet of paper from top to bottom, matching the short edges together, then cut it in half at the fold line.
  • Roll one half of the paper into a tube, and tape to secure.
  • Place a "V"-shaped cut about one inch down from one end of the tube. This will be your mouthpiece side.
  • Color and decorate your piccolo, using buttons or stickers as keys (optional).
  • Blow and hum across the mouthpiece to play your piccolo!

Don’t have the needed materials? No problem! Check out this website where you can color a piccolo online for free.
