A major highlight of the season is Charles Ives’ Symphony No. 4 on January 29 and 31. Ludovic Morlot and three (!) other conductors will lead an expanded orchestra and chorale — nearly 150 musicians total — in this landmark work of American music. Drawing on New England folk songs, military marches, dance tunes and hymns, sometimes simultaneously to great effect, it’s a celebration of American musical styles and an unforgettable experience for the listener. Ludovic Morlot and KING FM host Dave Beck discuss it here.

And here’s Leonard Slatkin, Music Director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, speaking about “the way things work” in this incredible American masterpiece.
