Schumann Piano Concerto

Synopsis

Schumann's Piano Concerto owes a great debt to his wife, the composer and pianist Clara Schumann. From the yearning first movement to the joyful finale, her influence can be heard throughout as the piano and orchestra dance together in a tightly woven choreography. Composed as a tribute to her mother, Anna Clyne's Within Her Arms is a somber, deeply felt meditation on life and loss for string orchestra. Mendelssohn’s Third Symphony revisits the awe he felt as a young man in Edinburgh, beholding the ruined castle of Mary, Queen of Scots.
