Born in Tokyo, Japan, Kokubo joined the Seattle Symphony in 2007. The Peninsula Review has praised her playing as “the real tour de force … mature polished playing that was truly artistic….” The Journal of the American Viola Society described her Paganini as “just dazzling!” Kokubo has earned honors, prizes and awards from many competitions and foundations including the Primrose International Competition, Pasadena Instrumental Competition, Carmel Music Society Competition, Music Academy of the West Concerto Competition, Ohmagari Music Competition, Maestro Foundation, Colburn Foundation and Leni Febland Foundation. Kokubo was a soloist for the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra in its opening concert for the 2010–2011 season. Her radio appearances include KUSC, K-Mozart and KCBX. Kokubo earned her master’s degree at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
