Schumann’s String Quartet No. 2 and Bartók’s String Quartet No. 6 were born out of times of personal difficulty. During a depressive episode, Schumann took solace in studying the works of Classical masters, inspiring a flurry of chamber music in 1842. Bartók channeled his political unease and grief about his dying mother into his sixth string quartet, which features a recurring tragic theme in each of its movements. From timeless themes to contemporary classics, watch the talented musicians of the Seattle Symphony take center stage to perform an exquisite assortment of chamber works in the intimate Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall.
